Shannen comes from a family of people who had been involved with working on ships since the days of sailing vessels. The O'Reileys have always been Engineers or fishermen. Shannen is close to her family and she had a happy childhood. Shannen is the first of her family to enter Starfleet or work on a starship.
Education
Normal primary and secondary education in the Boston public school system. She entered Starfleet Academy after high school, entering the Engineering program. Shannen graduated in the top 10% of her class, with a double major in Mechanical and Electrical Engineering.
