Kal Lenard

Kal comes from a long line of legal and judicial officers, with his own father having been the most successful as Chief Investigator of the Tanugan Security Council. The word "optional" did not apply to Kal's educational and vocational aspirations, as the firstborn son is always expected to emulate his father. Kal stuck to this tradition through his entire primary education and even through two years of apprenticeship in the Judicial Committee.

Though more than capable of it, the Tanugan people have never seen fit to colonize other worlds. Kal was no explorer, but he also was not content with the idea of living in a cultural bubble. Also, by this time, his relationship with his father had already become strained due to the discovery of an extra-marital affair on his father's part. Much to the disdain of his family, Kal gave up his pursuit of a career on his homeworld and applied for Starfleet. How much it was due to other factors, it is tought to say... but most agree that it was the only way Kal could effectively express his disappointment and resentment toward his father.
