Family history
Daniel Fox, son of the captain of a small cargo vessel, met and pursued the affections of Miss Sarah Grey (an ambassador's assistant and speech writer at the time) while docked at a space station for unscheduled maintenance. They later married, and Daniel inherited the cargo ship with his father's retirement soon after. It wasn't long before they had their firstborn, Rachel.
As a child, Rachel showed an interest in science which she pursued into adulthood, aiming to achieve her PhD and become a research technician. This brought the family to settle on Earth while their child worked toward her goal. It was about this time their second daughter, Laura, was born.
Nearly eighteen years apart from her older sibling, Laura grew up in the shadow of her sister. From early on, Laura, like Rachel, expressed an intense love for science. Particularly, the fields of medicine and psychology. These she went on to study in college at age eighteen.
At age twenty-two, she began dating her childhood friend Trevor Dallas, the son of one of her father's long time business partners. At the encouragement of their parents, the two wed early on. This was a decision both came to see as a mistake a year or so into the marriage.
After separating from her husband, Laura was at a loss for some time. Concerned, Laura's good friend Judy Garth suggested Laura look for work or continue her education. This would hopefully rekindle her sense of fulfillment and purpose. Laura--who had always regarded Judy as surrogate family-- took the advice. Her soul searching lead her to apply for Starfleet Academy, with the hopes that in exploring and learning space, she could also better explore and learn herself.

Education
Standard education for an Earthling. After graduating high school, she attended college where she received her masters with a major in medicine. She applied and was accepted to Starfleet Academy where she continued her pursuit of health sciences.
Medical profile
Laura maintains a balanced diet as recommended by the family doctor (allowing for the occasional cheat on a banana split). She has the average weight and build considered healthy for a human woman of her age and stature, who engages in moderate regular exercise. She has battled with insomnia at great length for years, a problem believed to have begun somewhere in adolescence. She combats this with meditation and attempting to maintain a steady sleep schedule. She is also very stress prone, which she often releases with dance.
