Family history
Originally from Yellowknife, North America, Charlie's family has been serving with the UFP and Starfleet for generations. His grandfather, Andrew, was one of the design engineers for the Excelsior class starship which gained the family a good deal of respect. Charlie's father, John, is a medical doctor who works in pediatrics at San Francisco’s Children's Hospital. It was because of his father that Charlie was inspired to go into the medical field. Charlie is now married to Aurélie Walter, who is a doctor of biology. She is a project leader for the University of France, and finds herself on deployments as often as her husband. They have been married for 6 years now. In a recent conflict, Aurelie has gone missing, however Charlie's duties have prevented him from searching for her properly.
Education
Charlie has always been passionate about his education. He was able to finish grade school early because of his desire to take courses during his summer breaks. After he graduated, he was offered a place in medical school due to his high achievements in math and science. Charlie also found social sciences to be of interest, and so he took electives in sociology and anthropology during his studies at university.
Charlie graduated in the top percentile from his medical school class, but was left feeling unsatisfied with the job that awaited him. During his studies, he took flight training, and became a proficient pilot. Charlie had a particular interest in old atmospheric craft from Earth's history. Eventually Charlie decided that the only way to satisfy his need for adventure, while still being the doctor he had dedicated a good portion his life to becoming, was to join Starfleet. Charlie joined the fleet and served out his residency aboard ships rather than in a hospital.

Medical profile
Charlie is in overall good condition, with a few minor injuries related to past flight incidents. Charlie has never had a major operation, but he has been exposed to a few rare viral and bacterial strains, but none of those incidents seem to impacted his overall health. Doctor Walter's medical career has brought him into contact with many foreign materials that could be considered hazardous to human life. One such encounter was even with a virus that was made up of Borg nanites.
In his current capacity as Captain of the Carina, Charlie has been maintaining his fitness by working out in the gym. He still practices swordsmanship on occasion, but increasingly limited time has brought him out of practice. His duties as Commanding Officer have taken away from his work in medicine, and so he is no longer exposed to the illnesses that he was earlier in his career.
